Spring in Rochester is a season of new beginnings. Blooms that perfume the air, gardens waking from winter, and neighborhoods alive with color. It’s one of the best times to explore the city at a slower, more intentional pace. This curated date invites you to wander, savor, and reconnect as you move through some of Rochester’s most charming springtime stops.
This full-day adventure is just one example from our city-date guides, designed to help you create memorable experiences without the stress of planning.
Stop 1: Brunch at The Mad Hatter
176 S Goodman St, Rochester, NY 14607
Start your morning in the warm, whimsical atmosphere of The Mad Hatter Restaurant & Bakery, where flaky pastries and hearty brunch dishes set the tone for your day ahead. We love their decor influenced by Alice in Wonderland complete with tea time options and mismatched details that make the whole place cozy and fun.
DITS tip: Arrive on the earlier side, around 9:30–10 a.m., to avoid the brunch rush and give yourselves plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day without feeling hurried.

Stop 2: Stroll Through Highland Park
(We usually park outside of Lamberton Conservatory to walk the park and then go inside before or after)
Just a short drive away, Highland Park is a springtime must stop. As you stroll along gently curving pathways, you’ll be greeted by budding magnolias, early lilacs, and sweeping lawn areas framed by century-old trees. The park’s rolling landscape naturally encourages you to
slow down, to pause, breathe, and take in the seasonal colors. We highly suggest you wander off the main paths and explore the smaller garden nooks that pop with early blossoms.
Stop 3: Lamberton Conservatory
180 Reservoir Ave, Rochester, NY 14620
Within Highland Park sits Lamberton Conservatory, an oasis of lush greenery that feels worlds away from the crisp spring air. Step inside and you’re greeted by warm humidity, tropical plants, and pathways leading through palms, flowering vines, and seasonal displays.
This stop is perfect for photographers, plant lovers, or anyone who just wants a moment of quiet. Take your time. The conservatory is intimate enough to wander slowly, yet filled with enough texture and color to keep you curious with every turn. We always make sure to make multiple loops in case we miss anything the first time around and say hi to the turtles.
Stop 4: The Sunken Garden
5 Castle Park, Rochester, NY 14620
A few minutes' stroll from the conservatory is the historic Sunken Garden, tucked behind the Warner Castle. Its stone walls, terraced steps, and neatly layered landscape create a romantic, almost storybook setting. In spring, the garden awakens gently, with touches of green and the first hints of bloom filling the geometric stonework. The Sunken Garden makes for a great photo opp or simply a place to sit for a moment and enjoy the weather after a long Rochester winter.

Stop 5: The Memorial Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden
500 University Ave, Rochester, NY 14607
After your nature-filled morning, head to the Memorial Art Gallery, where Rochester’s artistic heartbeat comes alive. Wander through diverse exhibits, from classic pieces to contemporary installations. The gallery is perfectly sized for an afternoon visit: large enough to inspire, but not so big that you feel overwhelmed.
Before you leave, step outside into the Centennial Sculpture Park. The playful, large-scale sculptures set against the open sky create a delightful contrast to the soft gardens you walked through earlier. It’s a lovely bridge between your morning outdoors and your upcoming evening plans.

Stop 6: Dinner & Drinks at Carnegie Cellars
247 N Goodman St, Rochester, NY 14607
Close out your day with a cozy dinner at Carnegie Cellars, a locally loved spot offering wine, good food, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Their elevated comfort dishes pair perfectly with their thoughtfully curated wine list, creating a relaxed and welcoming end to your spring date. We really enjoy our conversations with the owner and his knowledge of the imported wines and menu. It’s not everyday that an owner actually takes the time to speak with his diners. So don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn something new.
