Celebrating One Year in East Rochester
Established in 1998, Janis Reed Interiors provides clients with a luxury design journey from blueprints to furnishings. In 2022 the business, formerly located in Webster, officially opened as a design, home, and gift boutique at the Piano Works in East Rochester. At this one-year mark, Janis is celebrating in a big way!
The boutique showcases Janis’s aesthetic of casual elegance, in lake house inspired hues of blue, green, and warm neutrals. It is a one-stop shop for home interiors, highlighting enduring home furnishings and endearing gifts in tabletop, pantry, jewelry, candles, baby, and personal care categories.
The design studio within provides existing and prospective clients with an inspiring space for design consultations with Janis. The extensive resource library includes custom furniture and window treatment options; fabrics and trims sold by the yard, wallpaper, area rugs, and lighting.
“In designing the space, it was important that it supported us in our mission to help people live beautifully at home,” Reed explains. The boutique, with its home-like vignettes, candle fragrances, and uplifting music is bathed in beautiful natural light. Its model kitchen doubles as a serving bar for store events. All of this, Reed says, is intentional: "I want people to instantly feel welcome and comfortable from the moment they enter, as if they are visiting my home.”
Janis also collaborates with local artisans, showcasing their work, and fosters community engagement through interactive classes, pop-ups, and fundraisers. "We're dedicated to educating, sharing, and connecting with our clients and customers. We look forward to welcoming you here," says Janis.
During the Birthday Event, Reed will unveil her new Pantry line, featuring charcuterie items, cookbooks, dinnerware, and shelf-stable foods sourced from local artisans and makers. She's also introducing a permanent popup shop, Oh Baby! that features baby gifts, books, blankets, and nursery décor.
Janis's passion shines through as she describes these exciting new product lines, and she can't wait to share them with you. Stop by today to explore the latest additions and discover her incredible design ideas.
From Miniature Beginnings to Full-Scale Boutique
Janis’s interest in retail began long ago. Her father owned a local beverage company, and she had always dreamt of owning her own business. She recalls, "As a little girl, my Mom would take me to Sibley's, and I remember being in awe of the displays. By the time I became a teen, I was drawing floor plans of the boutique I would own someday.” Janis went on to earn a degree in Business and Visual Merchandising.
While on the visual team at a local department store, Janis met a lovely woman who inspired her interest in dollhouses and miniatures. She began designing, crafting, and selling collectible miniatures with her sister. The business had a successful 20-year run. After a short hiatus, Janis realized her interest began to naturally shift to full-scale interior design. She credits an internship and passion for learning as catalysts for her budding new career.
"It’s very rewarding to use design to help people live better and happier in their home," Janis explains, “and I'm very fortunate to have wonderful clients who become friends in the process." Having the boutique is also a bonus as she can shop her own store to furnish clients' designs. Janis maintains strong relationships with her vendors, as well as with local contractors and tradespeople, ensuring her clients receive a comprehensive experience when working with her.
giving back to the community
Whenever Janis hosts events, she aims to give back to the community that supports her. This year, on the one-year anniversary of the East Rochester location and with the introduction of their new Oh Baby! line, Janis wanted to collaborate with an organization that benefits babies and new moms.
Upon connecting with Maria Mehrle, the founder of Mothers In Need of Others (MINO), a local organization that collects care items such as diapers and lotions for mothers and babies through area churches, Janis felt it was a perfect match for her mission.
During the birthday celebration, Janis Reed Interiors will hold a raffle for a beautifully filled gift basket, with all proceeds benefiting MINO.
